Paddle Wheel Flow Meter
Many operators
believe a paddle wheel flow meter is a paddle wheel flow meter and that is
simply untrue. There are many different features and specifications that will
set aside different types of paddle wheel flow meters. Some are designed for
lubricants, oils, and gasoline and others for chemicals, water or waste water.
Features such as wetted materials, communications, size of paddle and
electronics will differentiate the paddle wheel flow meter. For this reason, it
is important to ensure that you carefully select your paddle wheel flow meter
based on the application in which you are planning to install it in. The TM
series is a prominent brand in manufacturing a paddle wheel flow meter for
water, DEF and gasoline. The paddle wheel flow meter that they manufacture will
not hold up as well against corrosive medias and chemical applications such as
hydrochloric acid.
The reason that this paddle wheel flow meter will not hold up is due to the wetted materials, the seals on this paddle wheel flow meter are mainly EPDM and that material is not suitable for very corrosive chemical applications but is great for water. In the Truflo series of paddle wheel flow meters, you can order your paddle wheel flow meter with either EPDM or VITON o rings which allow you to cater to more industrial corrosive applications. This is why many operators that look after chemical process piping systems will select the Truflo TK series when they are searching for a paddle wheel flow meter.
One
application involving a paddle wheel flow meter which was very difficult to
select a functional unit was dealing with a chemical manufacturer in New York.
The manufacturer had a wide variety of applications where he would like to
install paddle wheel flow meters. The issue was that the current paddle wheel
flow meter that the engineer had specified was not suitable for all of his
applications causing him to source more than one style paddle wheel flow meter.
When large companies select equipment including paddle wheel flow meters they
like to standardize so that purchasing becomes much easier and routine rather
than having to contact many different manufacturers or distributors in search
of their product.
Choosing a paddle wheel flow meter that will hold up and read accurately in many different chemicals is tough because you have to ensure that all the wetted materials are corrosion resistant and chemically inert to each different chemical. The Truflo TK seriespaddle wheel flow meter was able to cater to this standardizing request due to the fact that they are two different o ring options, as well as chemically inert materials of construction. The paddle with ETFE with a ceramic rotor pin and bearings, which is an adder in every other paddle wheel flow meter. The Truflo TK series paddle wheel flow meter also featured a no programming feature which the operator leaned towards to prevent his operators from having to program each paddle wheel flow meter.
